Claire M. Mulligan, age 83

Claire M. (Dunn) Mulligan, age 83, of Braintree, died peacefully, Monday, August 19, 2024 at the Allerton House in Weymouth, in the comfort of her loving family.

Claire was born in Boston, to the late William J. and Dorothy (Hartigan) Dunn. Raised in Newton, she was a graduate of the former Our Lady Help of Christians High School in Newton, Class of 1958. She earned her nursing degree from the former Quincy City Hospital School of Nursing in 1960.

Claire lived in Braintree for fifty-six years and spent the past thirteen months at Allerton House in Weymouth.

Claire was proud of her career as a registered nurse. As a young woman, she began her career at Boston Children’s Hospital and went on to work in the office of Dr. Goodman in the late 1960s. Claire also worked as a school nurse at the former Saint Francis of Assisi School in Braintree and the Braintree Public Schools. She had been retired for many years.

Claire was a longtime active parishioner of Sacred Heart Church in Weymouth Landing, a member of the Gardeners’ Guild of Braintree and the East Braintree Civic Association. She stayed active socially with a group of mothers dating back to when her children were young.

She enjoyed gardening, arts and crafts, and participating in the annual Christmas House Tour with the Gardeners’ Guild of Braintree.

Beloved wife of the late John P. Mulligan.

Devoted mother of Kathleen P. Mulligan of Medford, John C. Mulligan of Quincy, James E. Mulligan and his wife Kelly Lawson of Milton, and the late Susan F. Mulligan.

Loving grandmother of Seamus M. and Ciaran J. Mulligan.

Dear sister of Sheila Habel of Kingston, Paula Kelly of Norwell and her late husband James, and William Dunn and his wife Cheryl of Marshfield.

Claire is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and their families.

Visiting hours will be held at Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish in Sacred Heart Church, 72 Washington Street, Weymouth, on Friday, August 23, from 4 – 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish in Sacred Heart Church, on Saturday, August 24, at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Braintree Cemetery.

  • Aunt Claire was a love. She was so kind to me when our Son came into this world 7.5 weeks early.
    My Mom and Dad were out of the Country. Claire came to me with her beautiful smile and assurances that all would be fine.
    Claire was also a fan of our daughter Michaela. She made a point to seek Michaela out at family events and give Michaela the gift of her love and encouragement.
    We will miss you Aunt Claire. Rest in peace.

  • Claire was one of my favorite customers at Weymouth Savings Bank in the Landing many years ago.
    That smile brought everyone to smile. She was so nice and kind to me and was so excited when i had my son and my daughter and she always brought me gifts after i had my babies. She was such a wonderful person and we all loved her at the bank.
    I am so sorry to hear about her loss and sending my sympathy’s to her kids and family.
    She will always be in my heart and i will never forget her.
