Clara (Tavano) Columbus, age 78

Clara (Tavano) Columbus, age 78, a longtime resident of Braintree, died peacefully, Wednesday, July 27, 2022 at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth, in the comfort of her loving family.

Clara was born in Centrache, Region of Calabria, Italy, to the late Ferdinando and Maria C. (Teti) Tavano. She immigrated to the United States in the mid-1950s and lived in Braintree for most of her life.

She and her late husband, James, were well-known hairdressers and co-owners of James Anthony Coiffeurs in Weymouth, which they operated together for many years.

Clara was a devoted homemaker, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was especially proud of her grandchildren, supporting all their many activities and accomplishments.

Beloved wife for forty-five years of the late James A. Columbus.

Devoted mother of Anthony J. Columbus and his wife Laurie of Braintree, and the late Ferdinando “Freddy” Columbus.

Loving Nana of Matthew S. Columbus and his wife Lindsey, Brianna D. Columbus and Kevin Hornibrook, and Connor A. Columbus.

Cherished great-grandmother of Caiden James Columbus.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Saint Francis of Assisi Church, 856 Washington Street, Braintree, on Monday, August 1, at 1 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Interment to follow at Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree. At the request of the family, visiting hours have been omitted.
