David L. Gardiner, age 80

David L. Gardiner, age 80, a lifelong resident of Quincy, died suddenly, Friday, June 26, 2026 at home.

David was a graduate of the former Don Bosco Technical High School, Class of 1963. At the age of 18, he enlisted in the United States Navy proudly serving aboard the USS Forrestal where he received the National Defense Service Medal.

After being honorably discharged, David served as a Naval Reservist for many years. During that time, he also worked as an automotive mechanic at multiple shops ultimately retiring from Mass Tire & Auto where he worked for forty-three years. He was a highly-skilled technician, an avid car enthusiast, and found joy in tinkering with engines and projects of all kinds. Above all, he was a devoted father and proud grandfather caring deeply for his family, always putting them before himself. In earlier years, he enjoyed spending time on his boat, “The 4 D’s,” and, more recently, at his camper making memories with the people he loved most.

David is survived by his three children, David D. Gardiner and his wife Patricia of Hull, Daniel L. Gardiner, and Denise M. Gardiner, both of Quincy.

Loving grandfather of Alexis Agostino and her husband Christopher, and David J. Gardiner.

Son of the late Mary R. (Ceriani) and David D. Gardiner.

Brother of Gail Alden of Halifax and the late William G. Gardiner.

Longtime partner of Carole M. Landers of Quincy.

Visiting Hours will be held at the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue, Quincy, on Sunday, July 5, from 2 – 5 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Saint John the Baptist Church, 44 School Street, Quincy, on Monday, July 6, at 10 a.m. Interment, with military honors, to follow at Mount Wollaston Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
