Ellen F. Sweeney, age 86

Ellen F. (McLaughlin) Sweeney, age 86, of Weymouth, formerly of Rockland and Quincy, died peacefully, Wednesday, June 3, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Ellen was born in Lynn, to the late Rose J. (Chiaverini) and Thomas A. McLaughlin, Jr. Raised in Dorchester, she was a graduate of Jeremiah E. Burke High School, Class of 1957. She lived in Weymouth for ten years, previously in Rockland for two years, and earlier in Quincy for twenty-six years.

She was a self-employed antiques dealer for many years and was a well-known collectables specialist dealing with old phonographic records.

As a young woman, Ellen began her career working in Boston for the New England Telephone Company for ten years. She was later employed booking reservations for the former Northeast Airlines and later with Delta Airlines for ten years.

Ellen enjoyed reading and as a physical fitness enthusiast, loved going to the gym.

Most of all, Ellen was devoted to her family. She relished family gatherings and spending time with her cherished grandchildren.

Beloved wife of the late William R. Sweeney.

Devoted mother of Michael W. Sweeney and Brandy Fasanelli of Weymouth, Susan R. Sweeney and her husband Wayne Fitzgerald of Braintree, and Maura V. Sweeney of Florida.

Loving grandmother of James and Hayley Sweeney, Oisin and Cillian Fitzgerald. She was also the loving grandmother of the late Robert W. Sweeney.

Dear sister of Thomas A. McLaughlin III of Brockton and the late Vincent K. McLaughlin.

Ellen is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and their families.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Saint John the Baptist Church, 44 School Street, Quincy, on Tuesday, June 9, at 10 a.m. Visitation prior to the Funeral Mass will be held at the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue, Quincy, from 8:30 – 9:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Interment Pine Hill Cemetery, West Quincy.
