Frederick A. Flavin, age 83, of Plymouth, formerly of Duxbury, Norwell, and Quincy, died peacefully, Sunday, September 27, 2026 in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Fred was born in Cambridge, to the late Aloysius T. and Mary M. (DiRico) Flavin. He was raised in Quincy and was a graduate of Archbishop Williams High School, Class of 1961, where he excelled as a member of the hockey team. In 1961, he received an athletic scholarship to attend Vermont Academy, and went on to earn a full athletic scholarship from Boston College, where he played on the hockey team, graduating in 1966. He later received an MBA from Suffolk University in 1972 and an EMT degree from Northeastern University in 1978.

He lived in Plymouth, previously in Duxbury, and earlier in Norwell.

Fred proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam conflict with the 142nd Transportation Company, 58th Transportation Battalion. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, 2 OS Bars, and Expert M-14.

He was employed as the Safety and Environmental Director for the Hub Folding Box Company in Mansfield for twenty years. Prior to that, he worked in sales management for the former Bicknell & Fuller Company in Peabody for twelve years.

Fred began playing hockey at the age of eight, and developed a lifelong passion for the game. In 2003, he was inducted into the Archbishop Williams High School Athletic Hall of Fame in recognition of his contributions as a member of the hockey team. In addition to his high school and college careers, he played professionally in the semi-pro leagues with the Trenton Ducks in New Jersey. Never stopping, Fred continued to play in various hockey leagues throughout his life and was still playing organized hockey three times a week into his early eighties. He also enjoyed racquetball.

Dear brother of Brenda R. Flavin-Warshaw and her husband Andrew L. Warshaw, M.D. of Boston.

Loving uncle of Heather Graham, D.C., Gretchen Carney and her husband Niall, Brenda Favazzo and her husband Charles. Fred is also survived by many great nieces and great nephews.

Visiting Hours will be held at the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue, Quincy, on Friday, October 2, from 4 – 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Saint Agatha Church, 432 Adams Street, Milton, on Saturday, October 3, at 12 noon, with military honors to follow. Cremation will follow the Mass.
