Frederick E. Miller, age 81

Frederick E. Miller, age 81, of Braintree, formerly of Quincy, died peacefully, Monday, July 27, 2026 at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital – Milton, surrounded by his loving family.

Fred was born in Quincy, to the late Olive (Bradbury) and Ferdinand Miller. Raised and educated there, he was a graduate of Quincy High School, Class of 1963. He lived in Braintree for over thirty-five years, previously in Quincy.

He worked as an electrical technician at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Kavli Institute for Astrophysics and Space Research for fifty-two years.

Fred was proud to have served in the United States Army during the Vietnam era. He received several medals, including the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Marksman (Rifle).

He enjoyed travelling, golfing, and most especially, spending time with his family.

Beloved husband of Janet R. (Warner) Miller. Fred and Janet graduated in the same high school class. They reconnected later in life and enjoyed thirty-seven years of marriage.

Devoted father of Kristin A. Miller of Quincy. Devoted step father of Joseph J. Reardon and his wife Piper of North Carolina, and Sean R. Reardon and his wife Deborah of Brockton.

Loving Papa of Makayla A. Miller and her fiancé Markis Rodriguez. Loving step grandfather of Aaron N. Reardon and his partner Alexandra Sturm, Jacob M. Reardon, Shauna L. Reardon, and Justin K. Reardon. Loving great Papa of Hope, Andrian, Andres, and Amaya.

Dear brother of Susan Ratti and her husband Paul of Florida, and the late Joan Olsen and her late husband Robert. Dear brother-in-law of Nancy Pettinelli of Quincy and her late husband Edward.

Fred is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and their families.

Memorial Funeral Services will be conducted at the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue, Quincy, on Tuesday, August 4, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Memorial Visitation prior to the service from 9 – 10 a.m. Inurnment, with military honors, at Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.

    I am in shock. I’ve been friends with Fred for 40 years and I cannot imagine life without him in it. He treasured all of his family so much. He will be so missed by all his family and friends. I will think of him watching all the launch’s go off in Florida. I am so happy I videoed Artemis II and send it to him.
