George D. Jackson, age 90

George D. Jackson, age 90, of Braintree, formerly of Quincy, died peacefully, Wednesday, December 4, 2024 at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth, in the comfort of his loving family.

George was born in Quincy, to the late Joseph J. and Margaret (Sutherland) Jackson. Raised and educated there, he was a graduate of Quincy High School, Class of 1952, and earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Northeastern University. He lived in Braintree for over thirty years, previously in Quincy.

He was employed as a civil engineer for Fay, Spofford & Thorndike of Lexington for twenty-three years. He also worked as a resident engineer for the Massachusetts Port Authority. He was a member of the American Society of Engineers, Boston Section.

George was a proud United States Navy veteran of the Korean War, having served with the Naval Construction Battalion, Seabees.

He loved the ocean and was an avid boater. George was a member of the South Shore Yacht Club for many years where he served as a past Commodore, past president, and past treasurer. He also volunteered as President of the Quincy Bay Race Week Association in 1991 and later as secretary of the association.

George was a man of great faith and was an active member of Saint Francis of Assisi Church in Braintree where he was a daily communicant and served as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, senior acolyte assisting at Funeral Masses, and a Sunday usher. He willingly shared his time and woodworking talent with the parish. For his services and contributions, he was honored with the Bishop Cheverus Award by Cardinal Sean O’Malley.

He was devoted to his family and especially enjoyed supporting their many activities and accomplishments.

Beloved husband for thirty years of Elizabeth A. (Ryan) Jackson.

Devoted stepfather of Ann M. Frazier and her husband Michael of Braintree, Teresa A. Hathaway and her husband Curt of SC, Michael Boussy and his wife Patrice of Hanson, Carol A. Pistorino of CA, and the late Joan M. Newcomb and her surviving husband Douglas of NH.

Loving grandfather of eleven and great grandfather of seven.

Dear brother of the late Joseph C. Jackson, Deputy Chief, Quincy Fire Department, Retired and his late wife M. Virginia “Ginny” and the late John W. Jackson.

George is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and their families.

Visiting Hours will be held at the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue, Quincy, on Monday, December 9, from 4 – 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Saint Francis of Assisi Church, 856 Washington Street, Braintree, on Tuesday, December 10, at 10 a.m. Interment, with military honors, to follow at Mount Wollaston Cemetery, Quincy.

    As a Past Commodore of the Braintree Yacht Club, 1997, a member of the Past Commodores Club, Past Trustee and Historian of the Quincy Bay Race Week Association, I had the privilege to have known and enjoyed the many years of interaction with George. A true gentleman. He will be remembered and missed.
