Janice L. (Calderara) Tapper Beaton, age 80, a lifelong resident of Quincy, died peacefully, Thursday, January 23, 2025 at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, in the comfort of her loving family.
Janice was born in Portland, Maine, to the late Bruno and Althea (Ashe) Calderara. Raised and educated in Quincy, she was a graduate of Quincy High School, Class of 1962.
She was employed as a manager in the telephone industry for over thirty years, primarily working in Boston but was in Braintree at the time of her retirement. Janice began her career with the New England Telephone Company, worked with AT&T and Lucent Technologies.
Janice was a woman of faith and a longtime active member of the Wollaston Congregational Church in Quincy where she taught Sunday school and made many friendships.
She enjoyed taking trips to the casino with family and friends. Janice also loved to travel, especially visits to Oregon, with her late husband Bill, to be with the Beaton family and friends.
Janice was devoted to her family, loved cooking, and family gatherings. Most of all, she was especially proud of her sons and grandchildren, supporting all their many activities and accomplishments.

Devoted mother of Richard S. Tapper, Sgt., Q.P.D. and his wife Jennifer, Sgt., Q.P.D. of Weymouth, David P. Tapper and his wife Maureen of Quincy, and James B. Tapper and his wife Suzanne of Braintree.
Loving grandmother of Alexandra, Sophia, Katherine, Madison, Shane, Ryan, Cole, Cash, Kyle, Cameron, and the late David M. Tapper.
Dear sister of Marnelle Ranta of Bluffton, South Carolina and her late husband Glenn.
Much-loved aunt of Jeffrey Ranta and his wife Sherri of S.C., Pamela Doran and her husband Thomas of Pa., and Amy Ranta of Conn.
Visiting hours will be held at the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue, Quincy, on Sunday, January 26, from 2 – 5 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Funeral Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday, January 27, at 10:30 a.m. Interment to follow at Mount Wollaston Cemetery, Quincy.
