Jasper P. Buono, age 99

Jasper P. Buono, age 99, a longtime resident of Quincy, formerly of South Boston, died peacefully, Wednesday, October 16, 2024 at Atria Marina Place, surrounded by his loving family.

Jasper was born in Boston, to the late Michele A. and Josephine (Galuffo) Buono. Raised in South Boston, he was a graduate of South Boston High School, Class of 1942. He lived in Quincy for over seventy years.

Jasper was a World War II veteran, having attained the rank of Staff Sergeant in the United States Army with Troop D, 8th Cavalry while serving as a radio operator.

Jasper was proud to be a member of Sheet Metal Workers Local 17 for seventy-five years.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, boating, fishing, and could fix anything.

Beloved husband for fifty-five years of the late Mary G. (Saturno) Buono.

Devoted father of Joanne Knasas and her husband John of Quincy, Marie A. Tracy and her husband Francis of Southborough, Robert Buono and his wife Nancy of East Bridgewater, Catherine Nichols and her husband James of Quincy, and Joseph P. Buono and his wife Diana of Upton.

Loving grandfather of Maryanne Irwin and John Knasas, Jr.; John Tracy and Kristen Jacobson; Holly Nichols; Brendan Buono, Timothy Buono, and Maria Buono.

Cherished great grandfather of ten.

Brother of Phyllis Baglio, the late Frank Buono, and the late James Buono.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Divine Mercy Parish in Saint Ann Church, 757 Hancock Street, Quincy, on Tuesday, October 22, at 10:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visitation at the church prior to the Mass from 9:15 – 10:15 a.m. Interment, with military honors, at Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.

For those who wish, donations in Jasper’s memory may be made to the charity of your choice.

    Sir, I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for our Country as a member of “The Greatest Generation” when you served with the U.S. Army during World War II as a member of the 1st Cavalry Division-“The First Team” which the 8th Cavalry Regiment was a part of fighting the Japanese in the Pacific. And to your Family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.

  • To my cousins. I can’t express my condolences for the loss of your dad, grandfather, great grandfather, and my Uncle. The respect I have for Uncle Jack is beyond words. He had inspired me to go into the military and serve my country as he did. Although I have not seen him in years he is and has always been in my thoughts and prayers. Family although not nearby, means the world to me. I am a better person because of your dad. I pray y’all take comfort that he lived a long life and contributed much to this world!
