Jean L. (Gagne) Dalton, age 81, of Hingham, formerly of Quincy and Dorchester’s Savin Hill, died peacefully, Thursday, January 2, 2025 at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth, surrounded by her loving family.
Jean was born in Boston, to the late Simeon and Theresa (Callahan) Gagne. She was raised and educated in South Boston, and graduated from high school in 1961.
She lived in Hingham for the past four years, previously in Quincy for twenty-five years, and earlier in Dorchester’s Savin Hill, where she raised her family.
Jean was employed as an administrator in the social services industry. She began her career at the Little House in Dorchester and went on to work at New England Baptist Hospital for fifteen years. She had been retired for many years.
She was a tireless advocate for those with special needs and developmental challenges.
Jean had a passion for fashion and shopping. She enjoyed spending winters on Cape Cod for many years. She was always up for an adventure. Most of all, she was devoted to her family, especially her grandchildren, actively supporting their many activities and accomplishments.
Beloved wife of the late Howard E. Dalton.
Devoted mother of Kenneth F. Carson, Jr. and his wife Marybeth Thoresen of East Bridgewater, Brian D. Carson of Auburndale, Paul W. Carson and his wife Alicia of Quincy, Howard E. Dalton, Jr. and his wife Crystal of Newton, and predeceased by Kevin M. Carson and Peter Dalton, who died in infancy.
Loving grandmother of Paul W. “P.J.” Carson, Jr. and his wife Taylor, Zachary A. Carson, Robert T. Dalton and his wife Doris, Andrew DeGouff and his wife Jessica, Meghan Dalton, Timothy Dalton, Stephen Dalton, and the late Ryan Thoresen Carson.
Cherished great grandmother of Cora Jo, Remy Jean, and Lucy Ryan.
Dear sister of William Gagne, Paul Gagne, and Betty Gagne.
Jean is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Visiting Hours will be held at the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue, Quincy, on Wednesday, January 8, from 4 – 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Trinity Parish in Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 227 Sea Street, Quincy, on Thursday, January 9, at 10 a.m. Interment to follow at New Calvary Cemetery, 800 Harvard Street, Mattapan.
