Jean M. Predella, age 93

Jean M. (Thompson) Predella, age 93, a lifelong Braintree resident, died peacefully, Thursday, August 24, 2023 surrounded by her loving family.

Jean was born in Braintree, to the late Earle and Victoria (Jamison) Thompson and was step-daughter of the late Mildred (Shaw) Thompson. Raised and educated in Braintree, she was a graduate of Braintree High School, Class of 1947. She was also a graduate of the former Quincy City Hospital School of Nursing in 1950.

Jean enjoyed summers in Wareham and winters in Destin, Fla.

She was a registered nurse and began her career at the former Quincy City Hospital. She later worked as an industrial nurse for the Armstrong Cork Company in Braintree, a camp nurse at Camp Jean-Marie in Wareham, before serving as a school nurse for the Braintree Public Schools for ten years.

She was a woman of faith and an active parishioner of the former Saint Thomas More Parish in Braintree, where she made many friendships.

Jean enjoyed reading, needlepoint, and knitting.

Most of all, her passion was for her family, especially her five sons, cherished grandchildren, and great grandchildren, supporting all their many activities, accomplishments, and family gatherings.

Devoted mother of Richard P. Predella, Jr. and his wife Margaret of Sturbridge, Peter E. Predella and his wife Lisa of Medfield, Alan D. Predella and his wife Gerri of Marshfield, David J. Predella of Braintree, Robert P. Predella and his wife Susan of Miramar Beach, Fla.

Loving grandmother of twelve and great grandmother of twelve.

Dear sister of Earle Thompson, Jr. of Carver and the late Marjorie Ouellette.

Jean is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and their families.

Visiting hours will be held at the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue, Quincy, on Sunday, August 27, from 2 – 5 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish in Sacred Heart Church, 72 Washington Street, Weymouth, on Monday, August 28, at 10:30 a.m. Interment to follow at Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.

  • We enjoyed winters with Jean and Dick in Destin. She could whip up anything on her sewing machine, even turning out a nightshirt for a crusty old Canadian colonel when he couldn’t
