John J. “Jack” Kelly, age 83

John J. “Jack” Kelly, age 83, a longtime resident of Braintree, formerly of Quincy, died peacefully, Thursday, December 12, 2024 at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth, surrounded by his loving family.

John was born in South Boston, to the late Stephen F. and Eileen (Ahern) Kelly. Raised and educated in South Boston, he was a graduate of South Boston High School, Class of 1959. He lived in Braintree for thirty-four years, previously in Quincy for twenty-five years.

Jack was employed as manager of the former Costello Liquors in Boston’s Back Bay for twenty-five years. Jack was also a popular bartender and assisted with functions at the Adams Heights Men’s Club of Quincy for over forty years. He was a longtime active member of the club and had made many lasting friendships over the years.

Jack was a proud Vietnam era veteran having served in the United States Army.

He was an avid Boston sports fan and enjoyed golfing.

Jack was especially fond of Saint Patrick’s Day and relished his late wife, Audrey’s, corned beef and cabbage dinners. Jack and Audrey loved to travel and had made ten trips to Ireland together.

Jack was devoted to Audrey, his family, and friends.

Beloved husband for seventeen years of the late Audrey E. (Drinkwater) Kelly.

The last of three siblings, he was predeceased by his dear sisters, Mary McCarthy and her late husband William, Eileen T. Kradolfer and her late husband Captain John C. “Dutch” Kradolfer.

Jack is also survived by many nieces, nephews, friends, and their families.

Funeral Services will be conducted at the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue, Quincy, on Wednesday, December 18, at 10:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visitation prior to the service from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. Interment, with military honors, at Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.
