Joseph E. Paluzzi, age 91

Joseph E. Paluzzi, age 91, a longtime resident of Braintree, died peacefully, Tuesday, April 22, 2025 at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth, surrounded by his loving family.

Joseph was born in Quincy, to the late Albert R. and Eleanor M. (Cellini) Paluzzi. Raised in West Quincy, he was a graduate of Quincy High School, Class of 1952. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Northeastern University. He lived in Braintree for the past sixty years.

Joe was proud to have served in the United States Army during the Korean conflict. He received the Army Occupation Medal (Germany), National Defense Service Medal, and Good Conduct Medal. While posted in Europe, he served as a cryptologic specialist, holding a high-security clearance deciphering coded messages, and handling sensitive and classified information.

Joe began his career working as a loftsman for the Bethlehem Steel Company at the former Fore River Shipyard in Quincy. After college, he took a job with Camp Dresser & McKee and then went on to work for Stone & Webster for many years as a quality assurance engineer, working at nuclear power plants. Joe finished his career as an environmental project engineer for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. He had been retired for many years.

Joe and his wife, Mimi, were longtime parishioners of Sacred Heart Church in Weymouth Landing.

Most of all, he was devoted to his family, especially his sons and grandchildren, actively supporting their many activities and accomplishments.

Beloved husband for sixty-nine years of Erminia M. “Mimi” (Pietrandrea) Paluzzi.

Devoted father of Laurence J. Paluzzi and his wife Catherine of Waltham, Joseph A. Paluzzi and his wife Elizabeth of Braintree, and Robert J. Paluzzi of Plymouth.

Loving grandfather of Matthew and James Paluzzi, Olivia and Christina Paluzzi.

Dear brother of Phyllis B. Bagen and her late husband John, George V. Paluzzi, Albert M. Paluzzi, and predeceased by Daniel R. Paluzzi and his surviving wife Diane, Cecilia A. Blair and her surviving husband Normann, Ann I. Plant and her surviving husband William, and Anthony L. Paluzzi and his surviving wife Wendy.

Joe is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and their families.

For many years, he and his beloved wife Mimi happily spent their summers in the mountain town of Supino, Italy — the birthplace of both Mimi and his father, Albert, and the place where Mimi and Joseph were married. There, they lived among their Italian relatives and joyfully welcomed visits from family and friends.

Visiting Hours will be held at the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue, Quincy, on Tuesday, April 29, from 4 – 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish in Sacred Heart Church, 72 Washington Street, Weymouth, on Wednesday, April 30, at 12 p.m. Entombment, with military honors, to follow at Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.

For those who wish, donations in Joseph’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or www.stjude.org.

  • Deeply saddened of the passing of Zizi Joe. He was a caring, thoughtful, and an intelligent man. I loved hearing him speak of family and his love for engineering. He will be missed, especially on all our family gatherings but not forgotten. Loved him like if he was my own father. Always there to provide guidance. Love to my Zizi Mimi and my cousins Larry, Joey and Bobby. I salute to you my Veteran Uncle. From your Marine nephew. Semper Fidelis

  • I’m so sorry to hear of Uncle Joes passing ! Our sincerest condolences to my Aunt Mimi and cousins Larry, Joe and Bobby with Love Sheila Tom and family ❤️

  • Joe and family, we are saddened to hear of your Dad’s passing. He always offered keen insights when Joe, you and I were in high school at Sacred Heat and anytime I came to 77 Audubon Ave. Take comfort in the memories and the time you had together with him. You and the family are in our thoughts and prayers, Tom and Liz.

  • Even at a young age Joe was a local hero. My family were neighbors of the Paluzzis and one warm sunny day, apparently bored with playing on the swings and see-saw in our yard, at the age of four, I decided to take explore the woods behind our house ( like many other areas in Quincy the woods has now been over taken by houses and yards). My frantic parents , discovering I was missing ,raised the alarm throughout the neighborhood and after many anxious hours of searching, I was discovered in a thicket of briars by Joe. That event like many others became part of our family history. Thank you Joe for a happy ending to what could have been a sad story.
Judging from your obituary you have certainly earned your own happy heavenly ending .
    Rest In Peace
