Joseph R. Scolastico, age 71, of South Weymouth, died suddenly, Monday, October 5, 2026 at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth, surrounded by his loving family.
Joe was born in Tewksbury and raised in Boston’s North End and attended Bunker Hill Community College.
Joe lived in South Weymouth for over forty years, previously in Winthrop.
Joe worked as a banquet captain for The Ritz-Carlton, Boston and had recently retired after forty-two years of service. He loved his job and treasured the many friendships that he made throughout his career. He was a member of Local 26.
A man of faith, Joe was a longtime active parishioner of Saint Francis Xavier Parish in South Weymouth. He also attended Mass during the week at St. Anthony’s Shrine in Boston.
Joe was a talented cook and enjoyed hosting family and friends to celebrate the holidays and special occasions. He often made floral arrangements and was known for tending to the flowers and plants throughout his house. He had a passion for music that he shared with his wife and son. Joe was proud of his Italian heritage and cherished several family trips made to Italy over the years. He also relished trips to New York, New Hampshire, and Maine.
Most of all, Joe was devoted to his family, especially his grandsons.
Beloved husband for forty-seven years of Theresa A. (Carloni) Scolastico.
Devoted father of Joseph M. Scolastico of Weymouth, Andrea D. McCabe and her husband Michael of Whitman.
Loving Papa of Mikey and Bejamin.
Cherished son of the late Carrie F. Scolastico.
Dear brother-in-law of Lawrence S. Carloni and his wife Kathy of Buzzards Bay, Denise M. Carloni of North Weymouth, John J. Carloni and his wife Jeanne of Sandwich, and the late Michael D. Carloni and his surviving wife Cindy of Florida.
Joe is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and their families.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Saint Francis Xavier Church, 234 Pleasant Street, South Weymouth, on Saturday, October 10, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Interment will follow at Mount Wollaston Cemetery, Quincy. At the request of the family, visiting hours have been omitted.
