Lawrence F. “Larry” Baker, age 93, of Centerville and Sebastian, Fla., formerly of Quincy, died peacefully, Thursday, July 30, 2026 in the comfort of his Florida home, surrounded by his loving family.

Larry was born in Boston, to the late Lawrence and Catherine (Sullivan) Baker. Larry had a unique childhood, being raised and educated in many towns and school systems, including Randolph, South Boston, Mission Hill, Lowell, and Quincy. He completed his senior year in Belmont and graduated from Belmont High School, Class of 1952, where he played on the varsity basketball and baseball teams. He lived in Centerville for twenty-five years, Sebastian, Florida for several years, and previously in Quincy for most of his life.

Larry proudly served in the United States Navy during the Korean War era and was assigned with the Naval Underwater Ordinance Station in Newport, R.I. He received the National Defense Service Medal.

After his military service, Larry began his career with the Avedis Zildjian Company in North Quincy, at the time, where he worked for several years. He then was employed with the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier for thirty years in Hyde Park.

Following his retirement, Larry wanted to stay busy and active. He worked parking and valeting cars at Fenway Park and the New England Baptist Hospital with his sons and grandchildren up until his 80’s.

He was a well-known high school baseball umpire in the greater Boston area.

Larry was an avid Boston sports fan and enjoyed playing with his sons in various men’s basketball and softball leagues. He also relished his time playing shortstop in the Men’s Over 70 Cape Cod Softball League.

He loved his boat and bass fishing on Lake Wequaquet in Centerville where he spent many memorable days with family and friends.

Larry was a member of the St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Micco, Florida

Most of all, Larry was devoted to his family, especially his cherished grandchildren and great grandchildren, actively supporting all their many events, games, and accomplishments. He never missed a game and was always there for his entire family, no matter what.

Beloved husband for sixty-four years of the late Sandra Marie (Kerrigan) Baker.

Devoted father of Laureen Strnad and her partner Steve Bell of Fla., Larry Baker and his wife Marie-Anne of Braintree, Chris Baker and his wife Bev of Fla., Dan Baker and his wife Margie of Pembroke, Julie Briand of Centerville, Tim Baker and his wife Meredith of Quincy.

Loving Papa of sixteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren, all of whom cherished him.

The last of three siblings, Larry was the dear brother of Beverly Morganelli and William Baker.

Larry is adored by many nieces, nephews, extended family members, dear friends and their families, who will miss his kindness, generosity and unwavering love for family.

Memorial Visitation will be held at the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue, Quincy, on Monday, September 14, from 4 – 6 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.

At the request of the family, inurnment services, with military honors, will take place privately at the Massachusetts National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Larry’s memory may be made to St. Francis Hospice, 1250-B Grumman Road, Titusville, FL 32780.
