Linda C. Mitchell, age 81

Linda C. (Skantz) Mitchell, age 81, a lifelong resident of Quincy, died peacefully, Sunday, June 21, 2026 at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth, surrounded by her loving family.

Linda was born in Quincy, to the late Gustaf B. and Erika B. (Leif) Skantz. Raised and educated there, she was a graduate of Quincy High School, Class of 1962. She was proud to have lived in the same Quincy home her entire life.

She was employed as a certified home health aide with the South Shore Visiting Nurse Association for many years. Prior to that, she had worked as an assistant to the horticulturist for the National Fire Protection Association in Quincy for eight years. As a young woman, Linda began her career at the Liberty Mutual Insurance Company in Boston.

Linda was a lifelong active member of the Faith Lutheran Church in Quincy, where she made many lasting friendships. She served on various church committees, including the finance committee, garden committee, and the memorial fund. She was a kitchen volunteer assisting with bereavement luncheons and receptions. Linda also volunteered cooking at Father Bill’s Place and the Long Island Shelter.

Most of all, Linda was devoted to her family. As a young mother, she and her late husband, Ronald, enjoyed travelling with their children. Linda relished all family gatherings and was proud of her children, grandchildren, and great granddaughter.

Devoted mother of Brenda E. Mitchell of Quincy and her late husband James W. McAuliffe, Erik A. Mitchell and his wife Cynthia (Ellis) of Danvers.

Loving step grandmother of Cody and Taylor Angel, Kahsha, and Kaylie Ward. Cherished step great grandmother of Kyleigh.

The last of three siblings, she was predeceased by Barbara McAdow and Kenneth Skantz.

Linda is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and their families.

Visiting Hours will be held at the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue, Quincy, on Tuesday, June 30, from 4 – 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Funeral Services will be conducted at the Faith Lutheran Church, 201 Granite Street, Quincy, on Wednesday, July 1, at 11 a.m. Pastor Niki Harvell will officiate. Cremation to follow.
