Lydia E. (Fertile) Sandonato, age 99, a lifelong resident of Quincy, died peacefully, Saturday, October 19, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.
Lydia was born in Quincy, to the late Nicola and Anna (Chella) Fertile. Raised and educated there, she was a graduate of Quincy High School.
Lydia was employed as a secretary with the Quincy Public Schools for twenty years. She began her career working in the library at Quincy High School. Following her time there, she became secretary to the superintendent, before moving to Broad Meadows Middle School. She had been retired for many years.
Lydia was a former member of the Ladies’ Torre dei Passeri Society and the Catholic Club at Saint John the Baptist Church, both in Quincy. She had also served as a leader in Great Books discussion groups. In retirement, she served as treasurer of the Friends of Thomas Crane Public Library and was a member of the Quincy Historical Society.
She was an incredible cook who enjoyed cooking for her family, especially the Feast of the Seven Fishes on Christmas Eve. She was an avid reader and excelled at oil painting. She enjoyed time spent with family and friends at her vacation house in Sunapee, N.H. Most of all, she was devoted to her family, always supporting the activities and accomplishments of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Devoted mother of Francis Sandonato and his wife Dianne of Quincy, Ann L. Lombardi of Hingham and her late husband Joseph J. Lombardi, Jr.
Loving grandmother of Dean Sandonato and his wife Christine, Amy Winer and her husband Zack; Lisa LoGiudice and her husband Peter, Michelle Murphy and her husband Daniel, and Matthew Lombardi.
Cherished great grandmother of nine.
Dear sister of the late Gemma Fertile and Fiorenzo Fertile.
Lydia is also survived by her close nieces, Laura and Gemma, as well as many other nieces, nephews, and their families.
At the request of the family, funeral services were private.
