Madelyn S. “Sandy” (Marella) Magee, age 82, of Braintree, died peacefully, Saturday, July 25, 2026 at CareOne at Weymouth, surrounded by her loving family.

Sandy was born in Quincy, to the late Rocco and Elsa (Salvatore) Marella. Raised in Quincy, she was a graduate of Archbishop Williams High School, Class of 1961. She also studied at Massasoit Community College. Although an only child, Sandy cherished her lifelong friends Joanne (Quercia) Wroe and Joanne (Cataldo) Mattivello as her sisters.

She lived in Braintree for the past fifteen years, previously in Quincy, Rockland, and Hardwick, Vermont.

Sandy was employed as a communications specialist for The Stop & Shop Supermarket Company for thirty-five years and had been retired since 2009.

She was an avid reader and enjoyed solving puzzles, playing Bingo, watching BBC mysteries, and listening to the music of her youth. With her two granddaughters, Sandy made many happy summer memories at Lake Winnipesaukee. Sandy organized many social activities at Independence Manor in Braintree, where she cultivated many friendships. In her community, she remembered everyone’s birthday, and made sure they were celebrated. Sandy had a generous heart, and exuded warmth, laughter and friendship; her presence and attention were always a comfort. You never had to be alone with Sandy as a friend.

Loving grandmother of David Hanson and his wife Sara, Arianna Magee and her partner Troy Burditt, Liz Hanson and her husband Alex Protosevich, Laura Gonsalves, Brian Champagne, and Kane Rowell.

Cherished great grandmother of Owen and Westley Pro and Natalie Hanson.

In addition to her many friends in her community, Sandy is survived by Heather Thomas, her aunts, MaryAnn Salvatore and Wanda Salvatore, as well as many cousins from both the Salvatore and Marella sides of her extended family.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Saint John the Baptist Church, 44 School Street, Quincy, on Friday, July 31, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visitation will be held at the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue, Quincy, prior to the Mass, from 8:30 – 9:30 a.m. Interment Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.
