Margaret “Peggy” (McDonough) McDonough, age 85, of Quincy, died peacefully, Monday, August 3, 2026 at the Massachusetts General Hospital, in the comfort of her loving family.

Margaret was born in South Boston, to the late Patrick and Katherine (O’Laughlin) McDonough. Raised in South Boston, she was a graduate of St. Augustine Elementary School and St. Augustine High School, Class of 1958. She lived in Quincy for over thirty years, previously in Dorchester.

Peggy was a longtime employee with Massport, working as a switchboard operator at the Transportation Building in Boston, retiring many years ago.

She was proud of her Irish heritage and loved Irish music. For the past twenty years, she volunteered weekly at the Irish Pastoral Centre in Dorchester, where she made many friendships.

Most of all, Peggy was devoted to her family and especially enjoyed being “Mamo” to her two cherished grandsons, supporting all their many activities and accomplishments.

One of seven siblings, Peggy was the dear sister of Barbara Flaherty, Patricia Kelleher, Eileen McDonagh, and was predeceased by Sr. Catherine Joseph, DC, Kathleen Walsh, and Anna Mullen.

She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and extended family members and friends.

Visiting Hours will be held at the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue, Quincy, on Thursday, August 6, from 4 – 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Saint John the Baptist Church, 44 School Street, Quincy, on Friday, August 7, at 10 a.m. Interment to follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery, Dorchester.
