Marie Ann (Kennedy) Dougherty, age 89, a longtime resident of Braintree, formerly of Wollaston, died peacefully, Tuesday, August 18, 2026, in the comfort of her home, surrounded by her loving family.
Marie was born in Boston, to the late John J. Kennedy and Ethel D. (Tobin) Kennedy Hay. Stepdaughter of the late Hugh Hay. Raised and educated in Quincy, she was a graduate of Quincy High School, Class of 1954.
Marie was an administrative assistant in the pharmaceutical industry for the former Serono Laboratories in Norwell for seventeen years. She had previously worked at the Gillette Razor Company in South Boston and the Braintree Public School system.
She enjoyed golf, bowling, and country line dancing.
Marie was a woman of great faith and a longtime active member of Saint John the Baptist Church in Quincy.
Most of all, she was devoted to her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren, supporting all their many activities and accomplishments.
Beloved wife of the late Robert W. Dougherty.
Devoted mother of Linda M. Dougherty of Braintree, Brian R. Dougherty and his husband Dennis of South Boston, Steven P. Dougherty and his wife Kim of Feeding Hills, Paul E. Dougherty of Plymouth, David J. Dougherty and his wife Kathy of Abington, Jayne A. Connors and her husband John of Danvers, Jon J. Dougherty and his wife Cara of Reading.
Loving grandmother of Neil and his wife Kaleigh, Colleen and her husband Paul, Meghan, Katie, Lauren, Nicole, James, Michael, Daniel, Kara and her husband Matthew, Kelly, Jack, Katherine and Matthew and cherished great grandmother of Henry and Fiona.
Dear sister of the late Mark Kennedy and his surviving wife Pauline of Weymouth and the late J. Paul Kennedy and his surviving wife Virginia of Marlborough.
Marie is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family members, friends, and their families.
Visiting Hours will be held at the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue, Quincy, on Sunday, August 23, from 2 – 5 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Saint John the Baptist Church, 44 School Street, Quincy, on Monday, August 24, at 10 a.m. Interment to follow at Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton.
