Matthew J. Gallahue II, age 82, of Quincy, died peacefully, Thursday, October 1, 2026 at Hancock Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, surrounded by his loving family.
Matthew was born in Boston, to the late Matthew J. and Alice (O’Neil) Gallahue. Raised in Boston, he was a graduate of the first graduating class of Catholic Memorial High School, Class of 1961. He lived in Quincy for fifty-eight years, previously in Dorchester.
Matthew was proud to have served in the National Guard from 1963-1969.
Matthew was employed as a meat manager in the supermarket industry for over forty years. He worked at various BJ’s Wholesale Clubs as well as the former Capitol Supermarket in Dorchester.
He was an avid reader and enjoyed playing Scrabble, walking in Boston, and supporting the Boston sports teams.
Matthew was a hardworking man. He was devoted to his family and especially proud of his children and their accomplishments.
Beloved husband of the late Janice M. (Newman) Gallahue.
Devoted father of Joanne M. Gallahue, Matthew D. Gallahue, both of Quincy, and Bryan A. Gallahue and his wife Danielle of North Easton.
Loving grandfather of Jordyn S. Gallahue and Colin Walsh.
The last of five siblings, he was predeceased by Peggy Schulte, Anne Shanks, Alice Mary Gallahue, and Michael Gallahue. Matthew is also survived by his sister-in-law, Alice J. Gallahue, and his many nieces and nephews.
At the request of the family, services are private.
Matthew’s children would like to acknowledge the staff at Hancock Park and their mother, Joanne Linehan, for the compassionate care provided to Matthew.
