Mildred L. DiCesare, age 87

Mildred L. (Mattson) DiCesare, age 87, a lifelong resident of Quincy, died peacefully, Friday, December 20, 2024 at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth, surrounded by her loving family.

Mildred was born in Quincy, to the late Edward E. and Marion E. (Hollis) Mattson. She was raised and educated there.

Millie was a devoted homemaker and after raising her six children, she joined the workforce, working as a teller at the former BayBank for five years. She was then employed for ten years as a customer service representative at the former Bradlee’s in Quincy, where she made many friendships.

As a younger woman, Millie was an avid bowler and belonged to several bowling leagues.

Most of all, her passion was for her family. She was especially devoted to her grandchildren and great grandchildren, supporting all their many activities and accomplishments. Millie was an excellent Italian cook and she relished family celebrations.

Beloved wife for sixty-nine years of Joseph F. DiCesare.

Devoted mother of Deborah Ryan and her husband Chris of Plymouth, Dina M. Earl of Weymouth and her late husband Duke, Diane L. Speranzo and her husband Bill of Randolph, Donna Maze and her husband Jim of Quincy, Joseph F. DiCesare, Jr. of Weymouth and his former wife Linda of Weymouth, and Ronald T. DiCesare of Marshfield and his late wife Arlene Marie.

Loving grandmother of thirteen and great grandmother of eight with two great grandsons on the way.

The last of five siblings, she was predeceased by Elizabeth Bergstrom, Jean S. Burright, Edward Mattson, and Paul Mattson. Sister-in-law of Joann Mattson of Rockland.

Millie is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Visiting Hours will be held at the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue, Quincy, on Friday, December 27, from 4 – 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Funeral Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday, December 28, at 10 a.m. Interment to follow at Mount Wollaston Cemetery, Quincy.

For those who wish, donations in Mildred’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

That is a true testament as to how you raised and influenced the entire clan. I’m certain that ur life will continue to influence generations to come. I’m extremely grateful to have met you in person, and will never forget ur beautiful spirit and incredible ability to clean every last drop off a chicken wing!!

  • Donna, I’m saddened for you and your family to read about your mother’s passing. I hope you’re dealing with this well at this time of year. Your mom will be at rest with your dad by her side. I often think about you and Jimmy when we were in high school at QHS class of ‘77 and then the years that followed. I have long retired and moved to Punta Gorda Isles Florida, but think of you often.
