Patricia A. (Hughes) Coleman, age 86

Patricia A. (Hughes) Coleman, age 86, a longtime resident of Braintree, died peacefully, Wednesday, February 1, 2023 in the comfort of her home, surrounded by her loving family.

Patricia was born in Newton, to the late Patrick F. and Anna (Flynn) Hughes. Raised and educated in Newton, she was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School in Newton, Class of 1955.

She lived in Braintree for over sixty years.

As a young woman, Pat began her career with the former New England Telephone Company, where she met her late husband, Paul. She left the workforce to raise her family and later returned, volunteering and working for the South Shore Visiting Nurse Association for many years.

Pat was a longtime active parishioner of Saint Thomas More Church in Braintree, where she was a member of the Ladies Sodality and taught religious education.

Pat was an avid traveler. She enjoyed her iced coffee. She loved spending time at the beach, and especially enjoyed summers in Marshfield with family and friends. Most of all, Pat was devoted to her family, especially her grandchildren, actively supporting them at their many sporting events and activities, and encouraging them in their pursuits.

Devoted mother of Kevin P. Coleman of Boston, Janet M. Kelley and her husband Robert of Milton, Paul F. Coleman, Jr., Massachusetts State Police, Retired and his wife Susan of Weymouth, Steven H. Coleman and his wife Kerry of Rockland, Christopher J. Coleman and his wife Michelle of Whitman.

Loving grandmother of Brendan and Shane Kelley; Kelly, Katie, Patrick, and Matthew Coleman; Samantha, Michael, and Stephanie Coleman; Meaghan, Aidan, and Brennan Coleman.

Dear sister of Vincent K. Hughes of Brookline.

Pat is also survived by many cherished nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbors.

Visiting hours will be held at the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue, Quincy, on Tuesday, February 7, from 4 – 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish in Sacred Heart Church, 72 Washington Street, Weymouth, on Wednesday, February 8, at 10:30 a.m. Interment to follow at Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.

  • She was one of the best buddies to share a lobster bisque with, as long as she got her iced coffee by her side – also not to mention her sweet voice as my duet partner to sing “Hello Dolly” with. I had many joyful memories with her and I will cherish our time together. She will certainly be missed.
