Rafael Vazquez Diaz, age 79, of Quincy, died peacefully, Wednesday, December 4, 2024 in the comfort of his home, in the presence of his loving daughter, Melissa, and son-in-law, Frank.

Rafael was born in Santurce, Puerto Rico, to the late Rafael Vazquez and Adelaida Diaz. As a child, Rafael moved to New York with his family before they relocated to Miami-Dade, Florida.

He was a graduate of North Miami Senior High School, Class of 1961, and earned an Associate degree from Miami-Dade Community College.

In the wake of the devastation of Puerto Rico from Hurricane Maria in 2017, Rafael moved to Quincy, previously living in Puerto Rico for most of his adult life.

Rafael served in the United States Army during the Vietnam conflict, attaining the rank of Sergeant.

He was employed as a petroleum plant and facility operator working for Texaco, Inc. for thirty-five years until his retirement. He began his career working in the newspaper industry.

Rafael was a talented mechanic and enjoyed helping his neighbors in Puerto Rico by fixing their cars. As a young man, he enjoyed playing the drums and surfing.

Devoted father of Melissa Vazquez Pagan and her partner Frank Ruiz.

Loving brother of Migdalia “Micky” Carballo and her husband Louie Carballo.

Rafael is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

At the request of the family, memorial services will take place privately at a later date.
