Robert A. Mercon, age 75, a longtime Braintree resident, died peacefully, Monday, November 28, 2022 at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, in the comfort of his loving family.
Robert was born in Boston, to the late John J. and Daisy A. (Mason) Mercon. Raised in Braintree, he was a graduate of Braintree High School, Class of 1966, and later attended the Norfolk Agricultural School. He lived in Braintree for over sixty-five years.
He proudly served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam era and was a former member of the DAV and the NRA.
Bob was a Sergeant with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Environmental Police. He had thirty years of service and retired nineteen years ago.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and bird watching. Bob was a PEZ collector and an avid fan of the Walking Dead series. As a young man, he was a cub scout leader with Braintree Pack 22.
Bob and his wife, Jean, were longtime parishioners of Saint Thomas More Parish in Braintree.
Most of all, Bob was devoted to his family, especially his cherished grandchildren, supporting all their many activities and accomplishments.
Beloved husband for fifty-one years of Jean M. (Morris) Mercon.
Devoted father of Joelle M. Graziano and her husband David, Robert C. Mercon, all of Braintree, Daniel T. Mercon and his wife Meredith of Holbrook, and Russell J. Mercon of Braintree.
Loving grandfather of TJ and Emily Farmer, Charles, James, Samantha Mercon, and David Graziano, Jr.
One of eight siblings, Robert was the dear brother of J. Polakoff and Christopher Mercon of Calif. and predeceased by Jean Buckley, Patricia Frye, John E. Mercon, Russell Mercon, and BobbiLee Mason.
Robert is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and their families.
A memorial Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Saint Francis of Assisi Church, 856 Washington Street, Braintree, on Wednesday, December 7, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Interment, with military honors, to follow at Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.
