Robert J. “Bob” Tombari, age 96, a lifelong resident of Quincy, died peacefully, Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at the Dwyer Home in Weymouth, surrounded by his loving family.
Bob was born in Weymouth, to the late John and Anna (Rinaldi) Tombari. Raised and educated in Quincy, he was a graduate of Quincy Trade School.
Bob was proud to have served in the United States Army during the Korean conflict with Company K, 7th Infantry Division. He received the Bronze Star Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Korea Service Medal w/ 3 Bronze Service Stars, and United Nations Service Medal. He also received the Ambassador for Peace Medal from the Republic of Korea.
Bob began his career working for General Dynamics at the former Fore River Shipyard in Quincy and went on to work for The Boston Globe. He also worked as a carpenter for his brother-in-law, the former Albert (“Chippy”) Calcagno Construction Company, and as a carpenter for the City Quincy School Department. He had been retired for many years.
Bob was a longtime active parishioner of Saint Mary’s Church in West Quincy, where he sang in the choir and participated in many dance and variety shows. He was also a member of the St. John’s Seniors in Quincy, where he has served as its President.
He was an avid candlepin bowler, and a talented craftsman, having built his own home in West Quincy, as a young man. Most of all, he was devoted to his family, actively supporting all of their many activities and accomplishments.
Beloved husband for 75 years of Inez D. (“Enis”) (Calcagno) Tombari, the love of his life, having met as teenagers.
Devoted father of Robert J. Tombari, Jr., Esq. and his wife, Karon Tombari, of Plymouth, Lisa M. Turner and her husband, Richard Turner of Hull.
Loving grandfather of Robert J. Tombari III, PhD and his wife, Jessica Tombari, of Braintree, Madison T. Ford, D.M.D. and her husband Kyle Ford, of Milton, and Bryan K. Turner and his wife, Mary Turner, RN, MSN of Hanson.
Cherished great grandfather of Wesley Tombari, and with two more twin girls, “on their way” to granddaughter, Madison.
Dear brother of the late Barbara A. Standish and her late husband Lawrence Standish.
Bob is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Visiting Hours will be held at the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue, Quincy, on Monday, October 5, from 4 – 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Divine Mercy Parish at Saint Mary’s Church, 95 Crescent Street, West Quincy, on Tuesday, October 6, at 10:30 a.m. Interment, with military honors, to follow at Mount Wollaston Cemetery, Quincy.
