Robert S. Young, Jr., age 60

Robert S. Young, Jr., age 60, of Quincy, died peacefully, Monday, January 13, 2025 at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth, surrounded by his loving family.

Bob was born, raised, and educated in Quincy. He attended Quincy High School.

He lived in Quincy for most of his life.

Bob was employed as a supervisor of custodians in public buildings for the City of Quincy for twenty years. He had recently retired.

Bob was an outdoorsman who loved fishing, hunting, camping, and traveling.

Devoted father of Joshua W. Volpe and his wife Tiffany of Rock Spring, Ga., Kayla M. Erhardt of Weymouth.

Loving grandfather of William, McKenna, and Macie; Kensley and Hudson.

Beloved son of Robert S. Young, Sr. of Hingham, formerly of Quincy, and the late Helen M. (Smith) Mackiewicz.

Dear brother of Laureen S. Corey and her husband George of Braintree, Kelly A. Stappen and her husband Christopher of Hanson, and the late Frederick W. “Fred” Young.

Bob is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his grandmother, Laura B. (Brann) Smith.

Memorial Visiting Hours will be held at the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue, Quincy, on Thursday, January 23, from 5 – 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Those attending are encouraged to dress casually in honor of Bob. At the request of the family, funeral services and inurnment will take place privately.

For those who wish, donations in Bob’s memory may be made to the South Shore Health Foundation, 55 Fogg Road, S. Weymouth, MA 02190, to benefit palliative care.

  • I am so sorry about Rob‘s passing. I have known him my entire life and know that he was a wonderful man who loved his family more than anything in the world. A true gentleman who always made people smile. I am lucky that in life I was able to have such a fantastic friend.
