Robert S. Young, Sr., age 88

Robert S. Young, Sr., age 88, a lifelong resident of Quincy, died peacefully, Tuesday, March 4, 2025 at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth, surrounded by his loving family.

Bob was born in Quincy, to the late Walter E. and Margaret (MacLeod) Young. He was raised and educated there.

As a young man, Bob was an accomplished race car driver.

Bobby was the well-known owner of the Robert S. Young Corp. of Quincy, which specialized in demolition contracting. He operated the business for sixty-five years and was known as a hard-working, dependable man who took pride in his work.

He enjoyed clam digging on Wollaston Beach as well as fishing. Most of all, he was devoted to his family. He cherished time spent with them, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Beloved husband of the late Kathleen T. (McCarthy) Young and former husband of the late Helen M. (Smith) Mackiewicz.

Devoted father of Laureen S. Corey and her husband George of Braintree, Kelly A. Stappen and her husband Christopher of Hanson, the late Robert S. Young, Jr., and the late Frederick W. “Fred” Young.

Loving grandfather of Joshua Volpe and his wife Tiffany, Kayla Erhardt; Alicia Young and Daniel Young; Anthony Ciraolo; Caroline Stappen, Lilah Stappen, and Olivia Stappen.

Cherished great grandfather of many great grandchildren.

Dear brother of William Young and his wife Irene, Richard Young and his wife Janet, all of Florida, and predeceased by Walter Young and his surviving wife Phyllis of Middleborough, Margaret Yeomans and her late husband George, Paul Young and his late wife Carol, Charlie Young and his surviving wife Renee of Randolph, John Young and his surviving wife Betty of Canton, and Woodrow Young.

Bobby is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Memorial Visiting Hours will be held at the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue, Quincy, on Thursday, March 13, from 5 – 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. At the request of the family, funeral services and inurnment will take place privately.

For those who wish, donations in Bob’s memory may be made to the Lewy Body Dementia Association, 912 Killian Hill Road S.W., Lilburn, GA 30047.

The Young family would like to acknowledge the staff of Queen Anne Nursing Home in Hingham for the compassionate care provided to Bob.

    I love you an miss you so much already. I wake up an no longer plan my day around you. I’m lost I don’t even know what to do with myself. My heart hurts so much. I have never felt a pain like this. Not even when my dad passed away as weird as it sounds. Maybe because I knew his day was comming and this was a not expected ecsp that fast. I love you soooo much. I am greatful for you an all the memories we have gotten to make together. I’m an greatful the boys got to build a bond with you aswell. Thank you for always being you. And thank you for being there an helping me when I couldn’t help myself. I am happy I got to change my life around an be the Best granddaughter I could be and I’m happy you got to see me sober an changed my life around for the best. I hope I made you proud.
