Russell C. Rivard, age 71

Russell C. Rivard, age 71, of Quincy, formerly of Hill, N.H., died peacefully, Wednesday, May 7, 2025 at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, with his wife, Derelyn, by his side.

Russell was born, raised, and educated in Franklin, N.H. He was a graduate of Franklin High School, Class of 1972.

Russ held several positions in the Franklin Municipal Services Department and had worked throughout all six of its divisions. He was a drinking water systems operator and had also served as a heavy equipment operator in the Buildings & Grounds Division. He retired in 2017 after twenty-eight years of service.

He was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus in Franklin, N.H.

Russ was an avid sportsman with a passion for hunting, fishing, and trapping. He was a well-known hunter in New Hampshire and was featured in national publications over the years, including North American Whitetail, and recognized by Boone and Crockett Club. As a young man, he spent several years hunting and fishing in Alaska. He found great peace and solace in nature, especially the woods, and at his camp in Stark, N.H.

He was also a Harley-Davidson motorcycle and car enthusiast, and a lover of animals, especially his dogs.

Russ was well-respected and admired by many, and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Beloved husband of Derelyn A. Padula.

Devoted son of the late Roland A. and Pauline M. (Worden) Rivard.

Loving brother of Cynthia “Cindy” Krauz and her husband John, Linda Byres and her companion Brent Hannon, and Melissa Hicks and her husband Jeffrey Hicks, all of New Hampshire.

Russ is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and their families.

Dear son-in-law of Velia O. Padula and the late James G. Padula, Q.F.D., Ret. Brother-in-law of Dolores M. Shannon and the late James G. Padula, Jr. Uncle of the late TinaMarie A. Shannon.

A memorial service will take place in New Hampshire over the summer.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Russell’s memory may be made to the Quincy Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 690088, Quincy, MA 02269-0088.

  • I knew Rusty growing up on Chestnut St. in Franklin. He was always happy and had a great personality! A great worker for the City of Franklin and an avid hunter. Lost track of him lately after he moved to Quincy.. So sorry to hear he had lequemia. Will miss seeing him and talking to him. God Bless him and his family. Dick Gauthier
