William “Bill” Splaine, age 77

William “Bill” Splaine, age 77, of Braintree, died peacefully, Sunday, April 20, 2025 at home, surrounded by his loving family.

Bill was born in Boston, raised and educated in Dedham. He was a graduate of Dedham High School, Class of 1965. He attended the former Boston State College.

He lived in Braintree for the past twenty-three years, previously in Plymouth for twenty years. He was a winter resident of Naples, Fla. for over twenty years.

Bill was proud to have served in the Massachusetts Army National Guard.

He was employed as a letter carrier with the United States Postal Service for thirty-three years, having spent most of his career delivering in Quincy. He was a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers. He had been retired for many years.

Bill was a member of the Quincy Lodge of Elks. He was an avid Boston sports fan and especially loved the New England Patriots. Bill and his wife, Carol, enjoyed traveling and had taken many cruises over the years. He had a passion for golf and was a longtime member of the Royal Wood Golf & Country Club in Naples, Fla.

Beloved husband for fifty-two years of Carol A. (McCauley) Splaine.

Devoted son of the late William A. and Anne F. (Noonan) Splaine.

Dear brother-in-law of Arthur J. Pelton and his fiancée Maria Gnerre of Revere, and predeceased by brother-in-law, Jerry D. McCauley, and sister-in-law, Jeanne M. (McCauley) Findlay.

Bill is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and their families whom he loved dearly.

Visiting Hours will be held at the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue, Quincy, on Sunday, April 27, from 2 – 5 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. At the request of the family, funeral services and interment, with military honors, will take place privately.

  • Uncle Billy, not only my uncle but my godfather. Thank you for all you’ve done for me over the years and for always being there.   • So sad to hear Billy has passed. We both were retired letter carriers. We were friends for over 50 years. Lots of fond memories and tons of laughs. Billy was a friend, especially when one was needed. Himself (he liked that term), will be well remembered in my prayers. Carol in my thoughts.
